Alternator fan belt

Well, I was doing my normal engine check prior to my upcoming trip and
discovered that one of the two tandem alternator belts obliterated itself
on the front of the motor!

No problem, I thought, since I knew I had lots of belts in the spares box
the PO left. I pulled out a belt, checked the westerbeke spec and
proceeded to loosen the alternator and water pump so I could remove the
debris that was wound around the pulleys.

Okay, now to put on the replacement belt. But wait, no way this belt is
going to fit!

So, the westerbeke spec calls for an AX33. I have four in the kit. I
check the remaining good tandem belt and discover it is an AP34. AX are
cogged and AP are not cogged. Need two AX34.  Not good. It’s 7:30 Wed night. Got to get
this fixed by Friday.

I stop at O’Reilly’s Auto parts. They can deliver one, not two, by
Friday. No good. Amazon claims they can deliver two by Friday. Place the
order.

Plan B. My kit also contained a new A34 and AP34 (non ribbed). They are
not compatible. Stop by O’Reilly’s in the morning and buy an A34 to match
the new one in the kit. I also have the new AP34 that might work with the
stretched used AP34. That would be plan C. Stay tuned.

On another note, Gordon from Carrols Canvas stopped by and finished up my
canvas. Came out good. It took a.while but I’m very happy with the result!
